So we hung out in Heraklion and took a walk.
Heading for something to eat we strolled through the Kommeno Mpenteni heading past the new and imposing structure of the cultural centre. 
The narrow streets are sub lit and give truth to murals on the walls and the alley soon opens out to a pretty little square with an atmospheric kafeneio people dotted about at tables with candles taking in the light drift of Cretan music across the warm evening air. 
The labyrinth of Lakkos alleys has become part of an art project that is turning the former red light district into an art paradise.
